Essential Christianity
Sin and Hell

Romans 6:23 (ESV) 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Definitions:

Sin: Anything, thought, action, or attitude that misses God’s perfect standard. It is rebellion against God’s authority and a failure to live in His design.

Romans 3:23 (ESV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

Hell: The eternal separation from God’s presence, love, and life. It is the final consequence of unrepented sin.

Matthew 25:46 (NIV) 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

2 Thessalonians 1:9 (ESV) 9 They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might…

Hell is a real place.

Matthew 10:28 (NIV) 28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Mark 9:43 (NIV) 43It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.

Revelation 20:14–15 (NIV) 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

John 14:2-3 (NLT) 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.

Hell is eternal separation from God’s house; salvation is Jesus opening the door and inviting us in.

Sin separates us from God’s presence; hell is separation made permanent.

Romans 6:23 (ESV) 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 3:16-17 (ESV) 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

SOUL TATTOO: Hell is real, but heaven is available; sin is powerful, but grace is greater.

Essential Christianity: Sin & Hell

1.) Sin is missing the mark.

Romans 3:23 (ESV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

Sin is not just breaking rules; it’s breaking relationship with God.

SOUL TATTOO: Hell is real, but heaven is available; sin is powerful, but grace is greater.

2.) Sin leads to death.

Romans 6:23a (ESV) 23“For the wages of sin is death…”

Sin’s paycheck is death, spiritual, physical, and eternal.

Death is the consequence now, but eternity makes it permanent.

SOUL TATTOO: Hell is real, but heaven is available; sin is powerful, but grace is greater.

3.) Hell is sin’s FINAL DESTINATION.

Matthew 25:46 (NIV) 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Hell is the eternal consequence of choosing life apart from God.

God never intended for anyone to end up there. He made a way out.

SOUL TATTOO: Hell is real, but heaven is available; sin is powerful, but grace is greater.

4.) Jesus is the WAY OUT!

John 3:16-17 (ESV) 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

What sin destroyed, Jesus restores; what hell threatens, Jesus rescues from.

Life-Giving Conclusion…
