New Freedom
Prayer connects us to God and Fasting disconnects us from the world!
Week 1: SOUL TATTOO: New Faith begins when I choose God’s connection over the world’s pull.
Week 2: SOUL TATTOO: New Fitness is becoming whole so God can use me fully.
Galatians 5:1 (NIV) 1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Freedom is a gift, but walking in it is a process.
We’re like the Children of Israel…We’re out of Egypt, but we need to get the Egypt out of us.
Soul Tattoo: New Freedom is not a moment, it’s a way of living.
Galatians 5:1 (NIV) 1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
1.) Freedom begins with honest surrender.
You can’t be free pretending you’re fine.
Luke 15:11-24 (NIV) 11 And he said, “There was a man who had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. 14 And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything. 17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.” ’ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.
Freedom didn’t start when the father ran, it started when the son admitted his need.
Key Truth:
- Pride keeps us bound.
- Humility opens the door to freedom.
- You will never be set free thinking you can handle it alone.
Make It Practical:
- Admit you need help.
- Stop minimizing the issue.
- Stop spiritualizing avoidance.
Freedom starts when honesty replaces pride.
Soul Tattoo: New Freedom is not a moment, it’s a way of living.
2.) Freedom must be maintained with accountability and repentance.
What God sets free must be guarded.
Luke 11:24–26 (NIV) 24 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ 25 When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26 Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”
This is the cycle:
- Freedom
- Prosperity
- Forgetfulness
- Pride
- Bondage again
James 5:16 (NIV) 16Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
Key Truth:
- We go to God for forgiveness
- We go to people for healing
- Isolation always strengthens bondage
Make It Practical:
- Small Groups
- Freedom Groups
- Trusted accountability
- Saying the hard thing out loud
Freedom that isn’t protected will eventually be lost.
Soul Tattoo: New Freedom is not a moment, it’s a way of living.
3.) Freedom is sustained by replacing lies with truth.
Every chain begins with a lie; every breakthrough begins with truth.
John 8:31–32 (NIV) Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Bondage always starts with deception:
“This is just who I am.”
“I’ll never change.”
“God is tired of me.”
Freedom is sustained when truth is chosen daily, not occasionally.
THE FATHER’S RESPONSE: LOOK AT WHAT GOD PUTS ON YOU (Luke 15:22–24)
1.) Robe of Righteousness
- You are forgiven
- You are clean
- You must see yourself the way God sees you
2.) Ring of Authority
- You have authority in Jesus’ name
- The enemy must flee
- You don’t fight for victory, you fight from victory
3.) Shoes of Peace
- Your past no longer defines your path
- Peace goes with you wherever you walk
Make It Practical:
- Daily reject the enemy’s lies
- Daily believe God’s truth
- Replace lies with Scripture
Freedom grows when truth becomes my daily choice.
New Freedom is living daily in what Jesus already won for me.
Luke 8:26-39 (NIV) 26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places. 30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss. 32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. 34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured. 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left. 38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
This man wasn’t just struggling, he was completely bound.
- Living among tombs
- Isolated from people
- Chains couldn’t hold him
- His identity was wrapped up in his bondage
Jesus didn’t just remove what bound him, He restored:
- His mind
- His dignity
- His identity
- His future
Luke 8:39 (NIV) 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.”
Freedom lasts when Jesus fills the space bondage once occupied.
Jesus doesn’t just set us free, He shows us how to live free.
