New Fitness
Romans 8:1 (NIV) 1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
SOUL TATTOO: New Fitness is becoming whole so God can use me fully.
Getting Every Part of Me Fit for the Master’s Use.
1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV) 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
1.) Fitness starts with intentional training.
You don’t get fit by accident, spiritually or physically.
SPIRITUAL FITNESS: Train your spirit on purpose and with purpose.
Godliness doesn’t happen passively, it requires discipline.
- Prayer trains dependence on God
- Scripture trains truth into our thinking
- Worship trains our hearts toward surrender
1 Timothy 4:7b (NIV) … train yourself to be godly.
What I don’t train, I don’t strengthen.
PHYSICAL FITNESS: Train your body intentionally.
Movement, rest, and consistency matter.
- A plan beats motivation
- Consistency beats intensity
- Small disciplines compound over time
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NIV) 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.
My body is not my enemy, it’s my assignment.
2.) Fitness requires removing what contaminates.
You can’t pour fresh oil into a dirty vessel.
SPIRITUAL FITNESS: Clean your soul from what defiles and distracts.
God wants vessels that are empty and clean.
- Repentance removes contamination
- Freedom breaks hidden bondage
- Holiness creates capacity
2 Corinthians 7:1b (TMSG) …let’s make a clean break with everything that defiles or distracts us, both within and without. Let’s make our entire lives fit and holy temples for the worship of God.
God fills what I’m willing to empty.
PHYSICAL FITNESS: Remove habits that poison your body.
- Addictions
- Sexual immorality
- Overindulgence and neglect
This isn’t about shame, it’s about stewardship.
Romans 12:1 (NIV) 1Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, this is your true and proper worship.
I can’t expect strength where I allow sickness.
3.) Fitness is about alignment, not perfection.
SPIRITUAL FITNESS: Align your soul with your redeemed spirit.
If you’re in Christ, your spirit is already made new, the work now is alignment.
- Renew the mind.
- Heal the emotions.
- Submit the will.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (NIV) 23May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
New fitness means my soul and body catching up to my spirit.
PHYSICAL FITNESS: Bring your body into agreement with God’s purpose.
- Energy supports calling.
- Health sustains longevity.
- Strength enables service.
You don’t need perfection, you need availability.
1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NIV) 24The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
Fitness isn’t about appearance, it’s about availability.
MAKE IT PRACTICAL: Becoming a fit vessel.
What makes a vessel fit for the Master’s use?
- Being Empty - There’s room for God
- Being Clean - Nothing contaminating the oil
- Being Submitted - Ready to be poured out
