Journey to Jesus
Joy in EVERY Season

Soul Tattoo: Joy isn’t based on what’s happening around me — it’s based on Who is working within me.

Three Types of JOY

JOY THAT OVERFLOWS

“And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 ESV

This is explosive joy.

JOY THAT STRENGTHENS

“….for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 ESV

This is stabilizing joy.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11 ESV

“Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.”  Habakkuk 3:17-18 ESV

JOY THAT GROWS THROUGH TRIALS

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4 ESV

This is formational joy.

“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5 ESV

“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:6-7 ESV

Three Expressions of the Same Joy:

1. Joy that overflows when God shows up.
2. Joy that strengthens when life breaks down.
3. Joy that grows as God works in us through trials.

How Do We Experience Joy in Every Circumstance?

1. Stay close to Jesus’s presence.
2. Lean into God’s strength, not your own.
3. Choose the right perspective in the trial.
